Microchipping is a legal requirement for all dogs over the age of eight weeks and from 10th June 2024 for all  cats over the age of twenty weeks. We also provide microchipping for other small animals.

We recommend that all dogs and cats are microchipped so that in the event of straying, loss or accident you can be reunited with them as quickly as possible.

A microchip is a device contained within a small glass bead that contains a unique number. The number is registered to you and your contact details can be altered as required for a small fee.

The microchip is implanted by injection into the scruff of the neck and will generally remain in that position for the rest of your pet’s life. This provides a permanent and irremovable means of identifying your pet.

The microchip can be implanted during any appointment. If your pet is having an anaesthetic for any reason this can also be a good time to implant a microchip.

By law, all dogs must be microchipped and registered to an approved database by the time they are eight weeks old.

If a keeper of a dog which is not microchipped gets served with a notice requiring them to have the dog chipped, they will have 21 days to do this. If the keeper does not microchip their dogs within 21 days of the served notice, then they will be liable to pay a fine of £500.
